Holistic Lipedema Method

The Holistic Lipedema Method is the result of a careful fusion of my own life story, as a woman experiencing lipedema, with the profound insights I've gained as a therapist. This approach reflects a holistic view of well-being and health, where advanced manual techniques seamlessly combine with individually tailored lifestyle coaching.

The power of this method lies in a comprehensive approach that delves deeper than just the physical symptoms of lipoedema, aiming not only to provide relief but also to lay the foundation for lasting health improvements. Here, the well-being of the patient takes center stage, with the goal of promoting a life full of vitality and well-being, free from the pain often associated with lipoedema.

 

Our mission is to empower these women, supporting them on the journey to self-acceptance, health, and happiness. We strive for every woman to feel radiant again, unrestricted by lipoedema, and free to pursue and achieve her most ambitious dreams.

 

  1. The Golden Combination

Within the Holistic Lipedema Method, we utilize a golden combination of two specialized massage techniques that complement each other to achieve results that were previously unattainable.

 

We focus our treatment on nourishing the body’s innate self-healing ability. By applying unique massage techniques, we target the dense fat accumulations characteristic of lipoedema. These accumulations, intertwined between layers of tissue, suffocate the circulatory and lymphatic systems and impede their functions. Moreover, they exert pressure on muscles, limiting movement and lymphatic flow.

 

By skillfully manipulating these accumulations, we create space for the circulatory system to function optimally again. This manipulation increases blood flow to the affected areas, allowing them to receive the oxygen and nutrients they desperately need, while facilitating the removal of waste products. By also strengthening the lymphatic system, we enhance the body’s ability to efficiently process and remove excess waste and fluid, which is essential for promoting thorough and progressive recovery.

 

By adopting this synergistic approach, we achieve an integrated improvement in well-being, both internally and externally, for a healthy body and a positive self-image.

 

  1. Sustainable Eating Pattern: The Key to Real Nutrition

When asked about the ideal diet for lipoedema, my response is consistent: “The diet you can sustain long-term.” Statistics show that more than half of people who successfully lose weight regain it within a year, and often even more. After three years, this percentage rises to between 85% and 95%. Sustaining a diet in the long term is therefore a challenge for many. For this reason, I prefer to talk about an ‘eating pattern’ – a way of eating that actually nourishes your body with essential nutrients.

 

My personal preference is for a plant-based eating pattern, rich in fruits, which is crucial for daily support of my body in dealing with lipoedema. I opt for a plate full of colorful, preferably organic, vegetables and fruits, enriched with whole grains, seeds, nuts, seeds, and seaweed. These natural products require little energy to digest but provide much more energy in return. Limiting processed foods and opting for a diet with more carbohydrates and less fat helps me to function optimally.

 

The emphasis should therefore be on choosing healthy food over obsessively pursuing weight loss. Often, simply omitting unhealthy foods leads to weight loss as a natural consequence. Of course, you can opt for smaller portions or even track macros if you wish. However, for a body that deals daily with the symptoms of lipoedema, such as fat accumulations and low-grade inflammation, receiving healthy and nourishing food is most crucial. This provides the body with the best support in the fight against lipoedema.

 

  1. Active Recovery: The Power of Movement

Although our manual treatments can sometimes be intensive, finding the right form of rest is essential. Resting doesn’t always mean sitting still; there is much to be gained from ‘active recovery.’ This involves recovering through low-impact activities such as walking, swimming, or yoga. These forms of exercise are particularly beneficial because they promote blood circulation and stimulate both physical and mental relaxation.

 

For someone with lipoedema, it is crucial to maintain and promote mobility. Pilates is a personal favorite of mine for that purpose. It is a form of exercise that focuses on mobility and strength, and it helps to overcome the limitations that lipoedema can bring. By integrating movement forms such as Pilates and Yoga into your routine, you actively contribute to your recovery and support your body to remain strong and flexible.

 

  1. The Unity of Body and Mind in the Fight Against Lipoedema

In the treatment of lipoedema, we often focus primarily on the physical symptoms, but it is crucial not to underestimate the mental impact that the condition brings. An individual’s emotional well-being is inherently linked to the physical healing process. Without addressing the mental aspects, we may lose sight of a complete recovery.

 

My personal experience has taught me that an integral approach is essential. Therefore, our treatment method includes more than just manual therapy; it is a holistic experience where one-on-one sessions between patient and therapist also allow for coaching. These conversations are a fundamental part of the healing process, often releasing both physical and emotional blockages.

 

It is during these sessions that an organic process unfolds, where deep-seated emotions and sometimes even old traumas can surface. This gives us the opportunity to discuss these emotions and begin the processing process. Moreover, we can provide insights in a supportive and non-coercive manner that can lead the patient to positive changes in behavior and lifestyle.
